The Gospel According to Batman

Finding Grace in the Shadows

What does Gotham’s Dark Knight have to do with the Light of the World?

The Gospel According to Batman is a blog series exploring the strange but compelling overlap between the world of comic books and the Christian faith. At first glance, Batman and the gospel might seem worlds apart — one fights crime in the shadows, the other brings salvation through light. But look closer, and you’ll find that stories of brokenness, justice, sacrifice, identity, and redemption run deep in both.

Batman’s world is dark, but it is not hopeless. That tension is where this series begins.

In each post, we’ll take a theme, a story arc, or a character from the Batman mythos and explore how it resonates with — or challenges — the message of Jesus. We’re not saying Bruce Wayne is a Christ figure (he’s more like a bruised and brooding Jeremiah), but there is gold to be mined here — stories that echo the longings of our hearts and point us, surprisingly, toward grace.

If you love Batman and you’re curious about Christianity — or if you love Jesus and are curious about why Batman still speaks to so many — you’re in the right place.

Let’s turn the Bat-Signal into a conversation starter.
