Hey Phil,

So, how’s the “just be loved” thing going?😄 You did make me laugh in your last e-mail. Seriously though—how many rotas did you sign up for?! Fair enough joining the The Sound desk rota. But the flower arranging rota? Have you forgotten the great tulip massacre of 2014 – if my memory serves me correctly you were primarily responsible for that one?!

Believe it or not there was a method to my ‘don’t do anything yet’ madness. That foundation, knowing you’re loved by God, really matters. Because it is so easy to lose sight of that. This world will try to tell you a million and one other things about who you are and what you are about.

The world will try and make you think that your identity is all about your job, your relationship status, what you wear, your Insta aesthetic all kinds of things. But God says your identity is simply that you are loved and wanted by him. I know it sounds a bit simplistic, and there’s lots more of faith to explore, but this is the thing that we really need to hold onto in the here and now.

Honestly, I’ve been struggling to remember that myself. I saw Jodie’s new “Marketing Exec” job on LinkedIn and had to resist throwing my phone into the cereal bowl. I haven’t got a job. I’ve got FRIENDS reruns on E4 and a pile of rejection emails. But that truth I was telling you to grasp hold of —I need it too. My worth isn’t in my CV; it’s in the fact that God loves me so much he sent Jesus to die for me. Its sounds obvious but when you’re unemployed looking at friends on LinkedIn it’s easy to forget.

Sorry, bit of a rant. But this stuff matters. Knowing you’re loved doesn’t fix everything instantly—but it gives you a compass.

That’s why church is so helpful. (See what I did there? Smooth segue, right?) Being around others who believe this stuff keeps you grounded. I love that you’ve found a good church and joined a home group—that’s a solid move.

Faith is personal, yes. But it’s also deeply communal. God didn’t design us to figure it all out alone. He gave us each other. So yes—attend that group. Listen, learn, speak up. Let people surprise you. Let God use them. Let Him use you.

Right, I better go—another job interview. I’m 90% sure I’m underqualified and 100% sure I’ll sweat through my nice shirt. But hey—here goes nothing!

Hugs, kisses and kippers,
Laura

PS: Please send photos of the flower arranging, I think I’ll need a good laugh after this interview 😊
